Health Reseach GrantsWe all wish our dogs could live forever. While science hasn't discovered the fountain of youth just yet, researchers are making incredible strides to help our best friends live longer, healthier lives.
From discovering genetic markers that help breeders eliminate diseases to developing more accurate diagnostic tools and dynamic new treatments, veterinary health research is constantly reinventing the way we think about both animal and human health. The CKC Foundation is proud to support research and projects aimed at supporting and improving good health across the dog population through our CKCF Research Grants. Projects in all fields of canine research are eligible for funding with grants averaging $10,000 awarded on an annual cycle in response to a formal Request for Proposal process. |
Canadian Kennel Club Foundation Research Grants are awarded with the primary objective of enhancing the health and welfare of dogs in Canada through support of:
How It Works
Projects in all fields of canine research are eligible for funding. Grants are awarded on an annual cycle in response to a formal Request for Proposal process issued by April 1st each calendar year. Applications are due by July 1st and are assessed by peer review evaluation panels. Awards are announced by November 1st.
In the past, grants have sometimes carried up to a maximum value of $ 30,000.00 with values for future years dependent on available funding. Payments are made in two equal instalments upon award and at the conclusion of the 12-month funding cycle. Researchers must provide quarterly progress reports and are expected to adhere to timelines outlined in their proposal. Final payment will not be made until the last progress report/report on findings has been received. Additionally, the CKC Foundation reserves the right to publicize awarding of the grant and to share information on project progress made over the course of the 12-month funding cycle.
Who is eligible to apply?
CKCF grants may be awarded to individual researchers or research teams led by a primary investigator (preference will be given to teams or individuals working with Canadian host institutions). In all cases, researchers must be affiliated with a host institution. That host institution must be an eligible recipient for funds from a registered charity as defined by the Income Tax Act and able to issue official tax receipts for donations received. Most commonly, the eligible recipient is itself a registered charity.
